The Golf de Morfontaine was created in October 1913 by Armand de Gramont, Duke of Guiche, on the sandy Polo ground of the Vallière Park.
The famous Scottish architect Tom Simpson designed the 9-hole Vallière course emphasizing the natural landscape and the aesthetic quality. He became very successful in designing numerous courses: Muirfield, Ballybunion, Cruden Bay and the New Zealand Golf Club.
Tom Simpson designed also the 18-hole "Grand Parcours" golf course inaugurated in October 1927 by Simone Thion de La Chaume.
